cherylsteve i was at the race too. Please,PLEASE do us real race fans a favor and hold true to your words,KEEP YOUR STUPID HOW DARE THEY NOT KEEP ME INFORMED DUMBASS AT HOME.They probably didnt replay it over and over for YOU out of respect for his friends, team members, and family who were there. And it wasnt the Motorplex,i saw them turn Kennys wife away at the ESPN production trailor. She didnt get to see it and i dont hear her whining.
Watch closely at 1:34, the first cone KB hit just bounced, then the second cone shot hard across the track BEHIND John’s car as debris from KB’s car flew up high left. Doesn’t this remind you of the top fuel chassis failures of recent years, like Larry Dixon, Cory Mac, and Tony Schumacher? The chassis failed at the flex point on the chassis by the engine..notice the car bow in the side view. John was up on his feet Monday morning asking if he could race in two weeks! God Bless JFR and KB!
God bless you John!
So many times these cars have tried to kill you and yet you show’em that your a force to be reckoned with!
Get well soon my friend!!!
Yeah, absolutely. Who knows it could have even possibly taken out part of the wheelie bar, cuz **** was flyin from out under the right side rear, and the tire still looks like it was in one peice after that car came to rest.
After noticing John using that body, those were my same thoughts…it is quite eerie seeing those colors on the track. It’s a nice tribute…but keep the car static in the pits at least.
I understand that the box is made of foam, but is it possible that even at the speed of the vehicles, along with the speed of the object hitting the tire may cause it to burst? The Jim Nicol incident definitely is one of the worst I’ve seen…
I don’t know, but it does kinda look like a Scelzi deal. Maybe combined with something bigger than just a tire getting cut down. In the other video the tires might be deflated, but they did not explode and rip apart. It looks like something else broke that chassis and the chutes pulled it apart. Then the chassis dug-in to the concrete and all hell broke loose. We will see; maybe?
I was at the race on 9-23-07 and just arrived home. At the track they played (1) video about 3 hours after the accident and did not replay it. Texas Motorplex should be ashamed by not running the replay sooner and often at the track. EVERYONE at the track was upset by the lack of information provided by the Texas Motorplex after the incident. They lost alot of future ticket sales including mine by censoring this mishap to paying customers at the track.
Reminds me of Jim Nicol at Indy when the clutch exploded and cut his car in half. I can’t imagine a piece of foam hitting a tire could cause that kind of a chain reaction, but Scelzi just popped the chute that one year and it pulled the whole back of the car off. Who knows what all the factors could have been, but so far he is very, very lucky if he only has broken legs,

Not a huge fan of John’s, but i’m glad for his family he’s not hurt too bad. Man, that Syntec body is cursed.
Yikes, that’s a scary one.
Unfortunate when these things happen, especially when it happens to great people to JF.
Sure was a nasty run.
Thanks for the link mate.
Wow. Thanks for the video.
