Starting with the Southern Festival of Speed in New Zealand, this clip highlights some memorable thrills, chills and even a few spills from the in-car camera of “Pete”, my 1969 BMW 2002 race car. From New Zealand, we raced at Laguna Seca, Road America, Pacific Raceways in Seattle, Mission in British Columbia and Portland International Raceways. For more info, visit www.FlyingRubberRacing.com

Thinking about …
Thinking about buying an old 2002 as my first car and fixing it up for track day, I think you now have me convinced!
i wish my ‘02 …
i wish my ‘02 sounded like that =[
great vid tho
That video is plain …
That video is plain superb. I own a vintage car myself, an ‘80 Mercedes 280CE, but as a student I just don’t have the money to race it (yet), I work a LOT and can barely afford fuel and taxes (which really rape your wallet in Germany), let alone the repairs that are due (the car’s current condition could be described as “driveable” if you put it nicely).
I’d totally like to try it however, especially as the car is quite fast (top speed ca. 130 mph), and has solid handling.
Hello VanniGio – …
o VanniGio – great to hear from a fellow 2002 owner.
The “hot turn” was Turn 2 at Laguna Seca. …yeah, I went a little too deep on that one.
The next bit you mentioned was from Pacific Raceways in Seattle during the July Historics. Some great racing action that weekend!
Hello rodbmw2002,
…
o rodbmw2002,
I run a standard M10 engine (not stroked) but with custom cam, higher compression and dual 45 carbs to meet the “vintage rules” here.
The first part of this video shows some action in New Zealands “Southern Festival of Speed” (February, 2008). I hope to race in Australia someday. …perhaps with my other ‘69 02 that I will be running in at Targa Newfoundland this year. We are considering the Targa event in Australia for next year.
Cheers, Jack
Mate LOVE the …
Mate LOVE the driving and making a lot of more “exotic” sports cars look shame full!!!!
What is “Pete” running, motor size, carbs or injection, cam?
I can only dream for my 2002 to stick to the road like that!!!
Typically in …
Typically in vintage racing the main rules are “no contact” and “stay on the asphalt”. The only off road excursions I had last year were either to avoid hitting a spinning car or some other type of evasive action. Other than the incident in New Zealand where I was hit from behind after the checkered flag, there was no other contact and most of us in the world of vintage racing work hard at keeping it that way.
Great clips, …
Great clips, driving by some was more yahooy than I was expecting for vintage, thought it was a bit more ‘genteel’. Good that the 944 driver only took out himself, wanker.
